Martin Joseph O’Malley (born January 18, 1963) is an American Democratic politician who is currently serving as the 61st Governor of Maryland. Previously, he served as the mayor of Baltimore from 1999 to 2007. He is currently the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association.
O’Malley publicly announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 Presidential election on May 30, 2015. He was one of the top three seeking the nomination along with Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. After performing poor in the Iowa caucuses O’Malley announced he was withdrawing his candidacy on February 1, 2016.
