Richard Earl Mourdock (born October 8, 1951) is the 53rd treasurer of the state of Indiana, serving since February 10, 2007. Running with the support of the Tea party movement, he defeated six-term incumbent U.S. Senator Richard Lugar in the May 2012 Republican primary election. He will face Democratic U. S. Representative Joe Donnelly in the November 6, 2012 general election to replace Lugar.
Mourdock became the focus of national attention when he stated during a debate that pregnancy from rape is “something that God intended.”

Dear Mr. Murdock,
It is rare for anyone to be as bold to speak as you did concerning your conviction about rape and pregnancy. I have been astounded at the twisted misquotes that the Democrats have seized upon to discredit your comments.
My personal convictions politically are committed only to a citizenship in the future kingdom of God here on earth. If we believe what God has declared, by his word, in the Bible, that we are are to expect his son the Lord Jesus Christ to return and set up a kingdom to be ruled by him we must faithfully stand by that through belief. Because of that conviction I can not support you with my vote. But I wanted to let you know how much that I admire you for publicly declaring your Godly perspective. “God raises up whom so ever he will, even the lowest of men”. Sometimes that maybe evil men or godly men to do his bidding and bring about his will. Mankind lacks consideration that God may be working through adversity to develop our character. God chooses what that adversity might be, even if it is rape. Evil may come that good can come out of it, life. Christ’s crucifixion was certainly evil but look at the benefit that came. Salvation for anyone that wants it.
Thank you for courage.
Peggy from Indianapolis
May God bless you and be with you and your family whether you are elected or not.
