John Patrick “Jack” Murtha, Jr. (June 17, 1932 – February 8, 2010) represented Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district from 1974 until his death in 2010.  A former Marine Corps officer, Murtha was the first Vietnam War veteran elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.  Murtha has been best known for his calls for a withdrawal of American forces in Iraq, as well as questions about his ethics.[7]

    As a man born and raised in Pennsylvania, now living in North Carolina, it grieves me to know how this man’s lack of character reflects on Pennsylvanians. By shoveling earmark funds into the Johnstown area (an area I love), he assures himself of being elected for life. This surely is not what the Founding Fathers could have foreseen. When reading and reflecting on the Federalist Papers, I wish we could now have people with their character, not what John Murtha represents in Pennsylvania.
