Currently: The U.S. House of Representatives voted to censure Rangel today (Dec. 2, 2010) for ethics violations and bringing discredit to the House. Rangel (former chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee) was recently found guilty for 11 of 13 ethics charges, including misusing his office to raise money for a public policy center bearing his name and failure to pay taxes on rental income from a Dominican villa. Bio: Charles Bernard “Charlie” Rangel (born June 11, 1930) has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1971, representing the Fifteenth Congressional District of New York, and is the most senior member of that state’s congressional delegation. He is a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus. In January 2007, Rangel became chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, the first African-American to do so.

Before the recent ethics charges I would have said….Charlie has been fighting for New Yorkers for decades. If more politicians were like him the world would be a better place.

R U kidding me MBeharry?????????? He needs to be kicked out of Congress/ As the Chairman of the Ways and Means Com. he should be ashamed of his deceptive behaviour. What did he ever do good for New Yorkers, except ‘thief’ the taxpayers money, live on the ‘high horse’ like all the other politicians. He also has a number of ‘rent controlled’ apts in NY, how dare he when there are so many thousands of people that are homeless, who cannot afford to pay rent! and he has rent-controlled apts. hiding this info for years!! He is a selfish greedy bastard, taking trips to the Caribbean on taxpayers $$$$$$, and that creepy Pelosi lying & supporting him & not holding him accountable, is darn outrageous. New Yorkers need to revolt against these type of ‘daylight legal bandits”!

Big old thief that he is, New Yorkers should demand that he give up his rent controlled apts. and pay back all the money he stole. How come the IRS has said boo to him, yet the poor man on the street they strip to the bone and throw them in jail, such travesty and injustice in this world!!

I would love to say that I am shocked… I just cannot get the words out. Why is it that these people do not see these actions as wrong.
I am confused as to why he just does not say he has no comment? Why try and evade something that can be proven as fact. The fact is that he is facing these charges! NY politicians continue to think that they can pull the wool over our eyes.
I think that it is important to remember that he is just on trial. No one has offered solid evidence. I would hate to think that we as Americans are so ready to qualify guilt that we do not even wait for the trial to begin.
How is this any different from going into a store and stealing. I know that I had to take ethics courses in college. You cannot tell me that he did not know he was crossing some serious ethical lines!
I think that if we were to examine the entire congress we would see that this not exclusive to Mr. Rangel. I think that we would be surprised to see what some of the people who serve in this nation do.
Albany needs to have a good looking at also people! For the two largest states NY and California have some of the most corrupt and dishonest politicians there are. Too bad we cannot clean house. All I want is a state budget and someone who is honest and fair. Where are these people coming from?
It seems to me that there must be some public service people who are honest. I am not sure that they live in NY but there have to some people in congress who are there to make a difference and not to bend the rules.
I think that you are correct that this is not the only congressman who is corrupt. It is vital that systems be put into place in order to assure that the people's money and rights are being protected.
I do not think that it is a matter of right or wrong. I think that these individuals get power hungry and test the waters a little bit at a time. Once they are able to get away with something small they try something a little bigger and so on. It is when the small things start to add up that people notice and they are busted. Power is an odd drug.
