
Theodore Fulton Stevens (born November 18, 1923) was the senior United States Senator from Alaska. The longest serving Republican in the Senate, Stevens served as President pro tempore from January 3, 2003, to January 3, 2007.
Stevens has had a six-decade career in government, beginning with his service in World War II. In the 1950s, he held senior positions in the Eisenhower Interior Department. He has served continuously in the Senate since December 1968. One of his most notable accomplishments was the sponsorship of the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, which resulted in the establishment of the United States Olympic Committee. In 2006, after campaigning on a theme of “Alaskans Free of Fear-Alaskans with Hope and Opportunity,” Sean was elected as Lieutenant Governor serving with Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Sean and his wife, Sandy, have been married for 21 years, and they reside in Anchorage, Alaska with their daughters, Grace and Rachel. In their downtime they enjoy running, hiking, fly-fishing, playing volleyball and soccer, and staying involved in their church and community.
