Carte P. Goodwin served as Governor Joe Manchin’s chief counsel during his first term in office from 2005-2009 and was at one time the chairman (designated by Gov. Manchin) of the West Virginia School Building Authority. In 2009, Manchin appointed him chair of the Independent Commission on Judicial Reform, which studied the need for judicial reforms in West Virginia. George S. LeMieux (born May 21, 1969) is currently the junior United States Senator from Florida. He was Chairman of the Florida-based law firm of Gunster Yoakley & Stewart, P.A. and served as Chief of Staff to Governor Charlie Crist, was former Deputy Florida Attorney General, and is credited with spearheading Crist’s successful campaign for Governor.[1] On August 28,2009, Governor Crist announced that he would appoint LeMieux as senator, to replace Senator Mel Martinez,[2] who weeks earlier announced he would resign as soon as Crist announced his successor.[3]

New York’s New US Senator is Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)
In her first term in office, Congresswoman Gillibrand established herself as an independent leader in Congress. McConnell was first elected to the Senate in 1984. That year, he was the only Republican challenger in the country to defeat a Democrat incumbent, and the first Republican to win a statewide race in Kentucky since 1968. McConnell’s landslide victory in 2002 is also one for the record books: On November 5, he won a fourth term with 65 percent of the vote, the largest margin of victory for a Republican in Kentucky history. The previous record was held by the legendary Senator John Sherman Cooper. On June 27, 2005, McConnell became the longest-serving Republican Senator from Kentucky, again breaking a record previously held by Cooper.
