Nick Clegg Becomes Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Currently: (Reuters) – Nick Clegg, once the unsung leader of Britain’s third largest party, has led his Liberal Democrats back into government for the first time in nearly 70 years. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE64B15820100512

Recently, the Conservative leader, David Cameron opened talks with Clegg about the possibility of a coalition between the two parties because of the hung parliament which resulted from the 2010 general election.  Check out the BBC’s coverage of the election for the latest news.

Bio: Nicholas William Peter “Nick” Clegg (born 7 January 1967) has been leader of the Liberal Democrats, since 18 December 2007. His first major elected position was as a MEP for the East Midlands from 1999 to 2004. He was elected Member of Parliament for Sheffield Hallam in the 2005 general election and became the Liberal Democrats’ Home Affairs spokesperson in 2006. Clegg defeated Chris Huhne in the party’s 2007 leadership election. Gordon Brown Steps Down…

Currently: Brown finally stepped down with an emotional speech to the British people, read more from Reuters.

Brown was facing heat to step down as Britain’s political stalemate continues.  ”…a Sunday Times/YouGov poll, taken yesterday and on Friday, showed that the vast majority of the electorate want Gordon Brown to quit No 10 now. Only 28% want him to remain as prime minister.” Read the full story
